Fox Chase Forward 50 collage

Celebrating Five Decades of Innovation and Excellence

In 1974, the vision of the newly formed Fox Chase Cancer Center was to weave cancer research, treatment, and prevention together to develop a synthesis that would lead to more effective treatment and ensure that patients received the best care possible.

If the previous 50 years are any indication, additional decades of innovation in cancer discovery and delivery await Fox Chase.

LEADERSHIP LETTER

A Golden Anniversary Celebrates a Golden History

To be golden alludes to a level of excellence. It conveys the attainment of success. It can even describe a sense of purity in one’s approach … of staying true to oneself.

This year, as we mark the golden anniversary of Fox Chase Cancer Center, we celebrate 50 years of excellence in cancer research and care. We also express immeasurable gratitude for the many people who have contributed to our culture of compassion and our mission of discovery and delivery from our formation in 1974 to this milestone year of 2024.

To commemorate this occasion, we present this special issue of Forward. In its pages, we invite you to join us on a journey, one that brings together archival and contemporary photography, the written word, and tasteful graphics that invite us to reflect while at the same time evoking a sense of pride, belonging, and aspiration.

Organized into three sections — Past, Present, and Future — the text and photos highlight the rich legacy of our institution and its longtime standing as a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, communicates our strategic goals as we focus on our current place in the cancer community, and envisions the future of cancer care with insights from our own faculty.

The Past section covers the years 1974 through 2024 and features notable research accomplishments, important clinical advances, and key figures in Fox Chase’s history.

The Present section focuses on 2024 through 2028 — the years outlined in our new strategic plan — with details on our work as it relates to Discovery, Delivery, Community, Development, Culture, Growth, and Infrastructure.

The Future section addresses the next decade, 2024 through 2034, with researchers from our laboratories and clinics weighing in on where their fields of study are going in general and the direction of their own research specifically.

Considered in their totality, these three sections demonstrate that the magnitude of Fox Chase Cancer Center’s impact transcends any one person and that the boldness of our mission reflects our enduring quest to dream and to dare. They also underscore how throughout our 50 years, we have maintained an ever-present sense of empathy and dignity, exemplifying the goodness of humanity by staying true to who we are. That is, thinking of our patients above all else. It is for them that we are here, doing what we do, and it is for them that we will continue for years to come.
